Fruits that help lose weight
Updated on August 3, 2014 K Kiss moreContact Author Where I live, the climate is very hot and humid, and perhaps it is due to this that I am a big in taker of extremely tangy and sour fruits. While growing up, during my pre-teen years till I was 16, I used to eat all kinds of tangy sour fruits like green mango, star fruit, fresh lemon with salt, amra, tamarind, grapefruit, etc. What I realized later on was that I was skinny back in those days without almost any effort. Of course it could have been because of my high metabolism at that age but I felt like it was due to the intake of all those healthy fruits that kept me underweight.
I tried a routine about 2 years ago which worked for me. What I did was have my lunch as usual and after I was full and there was no chance of causing acidity, I mixed a little tangy tamarind (not the sweet Thailand ones) in water and let it dissolve in the water. I added a little salt and red chili powder for taste and drank the tamarind juice for one month every day after lunch. In addition to drinking this, I took a brisk 30 minutes walk every day. I saw a marked difference in my body at the end of one month. However, most stomachs cannot take the strong taste and quality of tamarind, in which case you should stop. The positive thing about tamarind is that it is very low in sodium and sugar and high in thiamin and magnesium. Tamarind acts as a good antioxidant that fights cancer. It also helps protect the body against vitamin C deficienty. Tamarind builds up on the body’s immune system, providing protection against colds. It lowers cholesterol. Tamarind is very good for one’s health in various ways.
Grapefruit juice without any sugar is also very good for those trying to lose weight. I would suggest that you make the juice at home yourself. Grapefruits are low in calories, sodium and high in potassium and fat burning enzymes. It also has high water content as it has almost 90% water content. Grapefruits are steeped with vitamin C.
Eating fresh tangy fruits are very good for your health. It lowers the chances of heart diseases by keeping the blood thin.
Juicy fruits and veggitables are a great way to keep your stomach feeling full while not really taking in many calories. However, avoid eating too many bananas as they tend to contain sugar. I would suggest that you eat fresh cucumber, grapefruit, watermelon, cantaloupe, papaya,
Avoid eating dried fruits as they have four times the energy density than normal fresh fruits.
Here is a list of fruits with the amount of calories it roughly contains:
Instructions to make tamarind juice at home:
Soak two entire pods of tamarind in room temperature water for 5-10 minutes or until tamarind becomes soft and soggy.
With hand mix tamarind with water. Squeeze tamarind and juice it.
Separate the tamarind seed and fiber. Throw away seed and excess fiber/pulp.
add water as required (depending on the amount of thickness you desire add water)
Optional: salt, pepper, mint, chilli powder
In my personal experience I find tamarind to be a great fruit to lose weight. Here I am talking about the sour tamarind and not the sweet Thai tamarind. Tamarind juice with a pinch of salt and red chilli (just for flavour) everyday for 30 days after lunch helps me lose weight each summer.
Tamarind juice does not sit well in most people's stomach so try it out for a few days and test the waters before going for the 30 days ritual.
Alternatively lemon juice with honey in hot water is also a very good way of losing excess weight.
However, diet needs to be controlled and some for of exercise should be taken up.

Jess, Thanks for stopping by at my hub. I have tried tamarind juice for many years .. with breaks now and then and it always worked for me. The key is to drink it with a moderately full stomach to avoid acidity. A 30 minute workout on the side is always most helpful for a fit body.

Interesting. I'm unfamiliar with tamarind. I'll try it. Whole fruit makes a healthy snack for weight loss. I eat one to two servings a day and I've been losing weight steadily with exercise and a healthy diet.
